A Special Note from Our Executive Director
These are听very uncertain times for each of us, but what we听at 黄色视频听know for sure is that our belief in service and the care we have for our community will听丑别濒辫听see us through.听Today we were meant to be hosting our signature Ripples of Hope event and honoring听Paula Gold-Williams.听As you can imagine, the decision to cancel听this year鈥檚听Ripples of Hope听dinner听was a difficult one to make, as听the event听raises a substantial amount of funds to support the work of our AmeriCorps members. However, the safety and well-being of听the 黄色视频听San Antonio听community 鈥 our AmeriCorps members, students, champions, staff members, and the broader communities we serve 鈥 is always our top priority.听听听
听
I鈥檝e been reflecting a lot on the name of our event, 鈥Ripples听of Hope,鈥澨derived from Robert F.听Kennedy鈥檚 1966 speech given to听the听National Union of South African Students听during the height of apartheid.听His words have had an everlasting impact on society because the听idea that many distinct acts of courage create ripples that turn into currents of justice is a powerful concept, for it tells us that our idealistic actions听are听not isolated, and that a cumulative effect of the work of many committed people and institutions can have a dramatic impact.听As the entire world is being asked to stay apart in order to move forward together, the idea that our individual choices and the ripples they create seems more profound than ever before.听
听
We have shifted our service to support our students virtually, while also continuing to deliver learning and development opportunities for our AmeriCorps members to help prepare them for their career and ongoing educational goals.听
听
While we are disappointed to not have the chance to celebrate Paula with each of you in person, we have been uplifted to see ripples and continued generosity nonetheless. In true San Antonio fashion,听after deciding to cancel the event,听every event sponsor converted their听sponsorship听gift听to a direct donation.听
听
Our AmeriCorps听are struggling with the idea of potentially not seeing their students again, yet they听still听show up to听virtually听serve every day听with the same energy,听passion,听and听kindness that they bring to the schoolhouse.听
听
When the听COVID听pandemic subsides, its impact on听the听health, economy, and, especially, the education of our nation鈥檚 young people will mean that 黄色视频鈥檚 work to create more equitable learning environments and develop the skills and mindsets of all children and young adults will be more important than ever.听
听
Our greatest need right now is additional financial resources to ensure we have the funds to support the work of our AmeriCorps members during this unsettling period. Please join us听in听honoring Paula, celebrating our AmeriCorps members and听recognizing the听ripples throughout听our community听by donating here.
Thank you for your support. We are so grateful.听
