Spotlight on Service: Meet John Yu
John is a proudAmeriCǰmember serving on theKaiser Permanente team atFern Bacon Middle School in South Sacramento.Heis right at home at Fern Bacon,as he wasa studentthere over a decade ago. Having grown up in theneighborhood, he wasexcitedto return after attending UC Santa Cruz to give back tohiscommunity.This year John is making an impact in an EnglishLanguageArtsclassroom working with students with a range of strengths and challenges.John brings a powerful perspective tothis work.Heconnectsand empathizes with his students who are English learners,ashe spenthis early yearsin China and is an English language learner himself. Johnenjoysservingalongside an outstanding partner teacher, Mr.ChrisMatthei,whoisaɫƵ alumnusand agreat supporterofdz’sgrowth as an educator.We celebratedz’sdeep passionforpromoting equity. Hetruly embodies the idea of generational change that we champion at ɫƵ Sacramento.
