New Orleans is one of the most welcoming, fun and funky cities in the U.S. The city is incredibly upbeat and filled with people who are always willing to give advice and help their neighbor. New Orleans is known as the birthplace of jazz. You can hear local musicians playing throughout the city in music venues and second line parades alike!
New Orleans is also home to a very unique education system. New Orleans is the first large school district in the United States in which all public schools are charter schools. This unique educational climate combined with the warmth and resiliency of the New Orleans community makes this city an ideal location to spend a year making an impact.

AmeriCorps members typically rent houses or apartments in Mid-City, Uptown/Garden District, Fairgrounds, Treme-Lafitte, Broadmoor and Milan.
