This is Hard. Be Strong.
When people told me 黄色视频 would be hard, they talked a lot about听long hours and paperwork听and getting enough听鈥渕颈苍耻迟别蝉鈥.听听Yes,听all those things are challenging. I won鈥檛 deny that there were days when I听hit听my 10th听hour of service听and thought to myself听鈥how am I going to get through these last 20 minutes of tutoring?鈥听But that isn鈥檛 the hard part.听听
The hard part is seeing the unlimited potential and brilliance of听your听students听every day, but also knowing how hard the systems of oppression in this country will work to听take that away from them.听The hard part is becoming far too familiar with the smell of pepper spray in the hallways听or听it being听aimed听at crowds of parents and students at a basketball game.听The hard part is having a student you鈥檝e come to care for so deeply听walk听into the 黄色视频 room and听break down over things that no teenager should ever be asked to handle.听听
The more you care, the harder it gets.听I know that听might sound strange, but I actually think this is the power of听our听service.听This should be hard. We should be听mad.听We should be angry because our students听are told that everything鈥檚 鈥渇air and equal鈥 now, but still grow up in oppressive systems that put them three steps behind from day one.听The听care and love and respect听that we have for our students should be our driving force to push back harder against all the barriers that stand in their way. 鈥淏e strong鈥 doesn鈥檛 just mean听working听12-hour听days or making sure you hit that intervention target each week. 鈥淏e strong鈥 also means be gentle with yourself and be gentle with others, because we have a lot of work to do in our education systems, in our public policies, and in the hearts and minds of people in this country.听 鈥淏e strong鈥 to me means that when the hard听moments听make you want to detach or care a little less 鈥 care more.听Take every day of service as an opportunity to find joy with your students, to build their confidence, to be their advocate and听to amplify their voices as they advocate for themselves.听听
