Dear 黄色视频 Boston Community,

During my time as a 黄色视频 AmeriCorps member, the brightest spots in my day听came from the people around me.听From听greeting students with smiles as they arrived at school听to听connecting with my teammates after another powerful day of service, there was always听joy听to be found. We learned so much about empathy and caring for others that year.听Eight years later and I still get so much joy from connecting with my teammates.听(Shoutout to the Burke!)

黄色视频 was built around the power of people supporting others. Though these are unprecedented times, 黄色视频鈥檚听ability听to bring people together for good has not wavered. While so much is uncertain, and 鈥 let鈥檚 face it 鈥 scary, I am filled with hope when I see how our community has come together.

From making sure families and children have enough to eat, to checking in on our听older听neighbors, to staying home and doing our part to protect the health and wellbeing of听people more at risk听鈥 the care we have for one another will see us through this time. And we all have a role to play in serving others.

When schools closed, 黄色视频 Boston quickly shifted their service. AmeriCorps members are currently providing academic support in virtual classrooms听–听answering questions,听assisting teachers in planning lessons,听and reviewing assignments. They鈥檙e calling families鈥 homes to check in with students and build connectedness. Students love hearing from them!

To our 黄色视频 AmeriCorps members 鈥 we know this isn鈥檛 the service you imagined, but I can鈥檛 stress enough how your听workis more important now than ever. Thank you for your flexibility and dedication to leading听with empathy, kindness, and open hearts.

To our supporters 鈥 I invite you to join 黄色视频 Boston in celebrating their incredible young leaders, who are helping to ensure that students continue to receive听critical听academic services, coaching, and mentoring in these difficult circumstances.听As part of the , you鈥檒l hear stories from AmeriCorps members, alumni, teachers, and principalsabout the impact听our service听has听on students. We are proud of the impact we have in the classroom, and even more proud of the opportunity to support our students when we can鈥檛 be in school.听

As someone who works in public schools, I听know the difference a听黄色视频 AmeriCorps member听can make in听supporting听home learning,听and just听by听being听another caring adult for students to lean onduring this tough and confusing听time. Whether in school or in virtual classrooms, corps members bring joy into learning spaces. They鈥檙e a bright spot for students– just听as听黄色视频, and the people who are part of听this community, is听a bright spot for me.

Yours in Service,

Isabel Barros
