Baltimore City Teaching Residency offers ��ɫ��Ƶ alums

Teaching residency

emphasizes intensive classroom practice centered around teaching experience and focused practice on core skills, expert coaching that begins in summer training and continues throughout your first year and personalized training that identifies areas of growth and customizes your coursework to address those needs.

Baltimore City Teaching Residents will also receive the following benefits:

• competitive first-year salary (average is $51,000)
• comprehensive coverage, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance
• full teaching certification from TNTP Academy after program completion
• reduced tuition for an online Master of Science in education degree from Johns Hopkins University
• Americorps Education Award: Upon successfully completing your first year of teaching in a systemically under-resourced school, Fellows who enroll in the TNTP AmeriCorps Program are eligible for an education award of up to $6,345, which can be used for repayment of federal student loans and/or for future educational costs at schools that accept federal financial aid; however, it cannot be applied towards TNTP Academy tuition and fees.
• postponement of federal student loans repayment: As an AmeriCorps member, you may be eligible to pause repayment of outstanding federal student loans. You would not have to make any federal student loan payments during your year of service, and after you successfully complete the year, AmeriCorps would repay any interest accrued during that time.
• : supports new Black enrollees in transitioning to the teaching profession to help address barriers to the classroom that Black teachers often face. This cohort provides support, including some financial, exam preparation support and builds a networking and fellowship community with other Black educators. All participants who identify as Black/African American who are enrolled in the 2023-24 cohort with Baltimore City Teaching Residency are eligible for the Black Educator Excellence Cohort.

It partners with Baltimore City Public Schools to prepare teachers to work where they are most needed. Through this partnership, the residency has been able to provide more than 380,000 students with great teachers who have a significant impact on their students’ lives. As a member of Baltimore City Teaching Residency, you’ll most likely teach alongside residency alums who are committed to the lifelong success of students, as one in 10 Baltimore City Public Schools teachers began their careers in the program.

When you join Baltimore City Teaching Residency, you join a long-standing cohort of residents who care deeply about students’ futures and helping to transform Baltimore City Public Schools. With this hands-on, job-embedded teacher preparation program, you too can make a difference in the lives of Baltimore students.

��ɫ��Ƶ AmeriCorps members and alums who apply for Baltimore City Teaching Residency will be eligible for a priority application process and to bypass the initial short-answer essay questions. When submitting your , complete all pages. On the “application questions” page, use the code “��ɫ��Ƶ” in response to the short-answer application questions. By inputting the code, ��ɫ��Ƶ applicants get automatically pushed to the interview round.

Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis, so applying early could increase your chance of admission.

Please compare the start date for Baltimore City Teaching Residency to your ��ɫ��Ƶ graduation date. ��ɫ��Ƶ AmeriCorps members should avoid applying to Baltimore City Teaching Residency with a scheduling conflict, since being accepted into a program that starts before your ��ɫ��Ƶ graduation would end your term of service with ��ɫ��Ƶ, which could result in losing benefits that are available to you as a ��ɫ��Ƶ alum.
